In order to do this, one needs to measure the di erence between the error and target tolerance, and use this deviation in a feedback control system to continually correct the step size. Section 3 describes how control theory has been applied to self-tuning memory management in IBM’s DB2 Universal Data Base Management System. Section 4 addresses the use of model-predictive control in distributed real-time systems. Section 5 discusses automated workload management in virtualized data centers.
